Plays: 17076 Jiggs: 48 Description: What?! I've only heard of red lanterns hanging high. What do you mean about hanging red envelopes?
You want to get rich? You think of public office? Then you can't be short of red envelopes, those cash gifts one gives out on special occasions. If you give lavish gifts, you can go as far as you want; but without them, you won't move an inch. Red envelopes are not only for New Years anymore. They have become one road to riches. On any important occasion, from as big as a wedding to as small as little jimmy's or little molly's first month banquet, there are sure to be a whole crowd of ass kissing people who take the stage, hoping to gain position, wealth or unobstructed power through their connections. That you don't have to have any particular skills, but you do need some money is a truth handed down from the ancients; and it's still true today. That's why red envelope culture is so persistent.
This tune is the first-hand creation of Kou Chou Ching. For the most part, we employed instruments with the sounds of classical palace music, such as bamboo flutes, samisen, and taiko drums, in order to comment satirically on the corrupt practice of giving red envelopes. We hope that thinking about this 'imperial' practice will provoke anger, worry, and concern.
