Plays: 41381 Jiggs: 869 Description: What an absolutely entertaining song! It's fun, funky, and hyperactive. Perhaps the best thing I can say about it is that I listened to it nearly a half a dozen times for pure pleasure before finally getting down to the task of writing this review. That's never quite happened to me before.
My first impression was that the singer was pushing too hard and singing too aggressively. But I got over this opinion sometime around the second listen, when it became clear that the vigorous singing style was key to the crazy energy of the song. And even though the singing is intense, it never ceases being melodic or musical.
I love the production. The mix is full of little ear candy bits but it never crosses over into being too busy or overwhelming. The arrangement is lively and dynamic, with textures and colors changing at a pretty good clip. The track covers a lot of ground in less than three minutes, and arguably would benefit from staying static for slightly longer at various points (like right before the rather abrupt ending) so as to give various musical themes more time to make an impact on the listener. I think part of the reason wanted to listen repeatedly is that my early impression of the song was that it was kind of a blur - a very interesting and musically compelling blur. I wanted to listen again because it sounded good, but also because I instinctively wanted to try to make more sense of it. I guess there's no real complaint here - as long as the music's good, leaving a listener slightly befuddled will incline them to come back for more.
Along the same line, the song form was not readily discernable to me. Where's the verse? Where's the chorus? *Is* there a chorus? Does it even matter? In my judgment, it really doesn't matter. The song exhibited sufficient repetition and variety of themes to make it plenty interesting. Standard song forms become a convention because they happen to work, but they need not be prescribed as the only frame upon which to construct a song. And maybe there is a standard form lurking in your song - but it wasn't obvious to me.
Sonically, the track is top-notch. Every element is given appropriate space in the mix and sounds clear and warm.
This is definitely the kind of song I would seek out as a listener. Awesome job! Album: Fairytales Genre: Alternative Language: English Tags: Ben Elliot Silverchair Dissociatives Pop Rock Upbeat Story Daniel Johns Danny Elfman Mood

ben found the funk and used it's creamy tit juice. Whip himself up a funk shake and made himself a funky tune.

This artist is brilliant, the other songs up here are just as good as this one. I am confused by razor's comment, the Daniel Johns influence can be seen, as can a full spectrum of other themes, but the way that they are used together sounds pretty original to me. So if you are influenced by and your vocals can be compared to another artist does that mean it's not your song and it has to go on Kazaa? Hmmm....
Any keep up the good work Ben and ignore the jealous fools who don't know what they're talking about, you are a very talented artist.
